VT deletes mail that you have already read if it is older than 30days and you have not saved it in your Save Box. A Yellow block means that a particular Email message was read 20 days ago and has 10 days remaining before it is deleted. It should be saved or put in the trash soon. A Red Block means a particular message was read by you 29 days ago and has 1 day remaing before it is deleted. You should save this Email immediately or discard it.. 3. Important Emails can be stored in your Save Box after you have read them. 6. How Many Emails Can I Save? You can save up to 20 Emails in your Save Box. What are These Unsolicited Emails (Spam) That I Keep Getting? Unscrupulous salesmen and hustlers bombard Email addresses with Spam -electronic junk mail- in the same way that marketers send junk mail to your home. It's an annoying part of internet life but there are some strategies for minimizing spam. 8. Why Am I Gettting Spam? First off, VirtualTourist, does not share your personal or VT email with outside parties. We never sell you address and never provide it to others. That said, there are many ways that your Email address can get into the hands of spammers. From Sign ups with unethical sites, from lists that a spammer purchases and just from luck. For example if you address is something common like Bill@yahoo.com, you can be sure that you'll be receiving spam. 9. How Do I Stop Spam? The quickest and easiest way to stop spam on VT is to simply block all outside mail coming into your VT box. That way, you can use your VT mail for communicating with your friends here and not have to deal with spam. Just go to your Email and check the box that reads. "Block All Mail From Outside VT" 10. Does VT Give My Email to Anybody? VT does NOT share your private email with any group or individual. 11. I Just Got An Email From Myself. How Could That Happen? Spammers can see Email addresses. When they send mail from their address, they can change the from input (where you write your name) to read your own name. It's harmless and happens all over the web. It's just a sad fact of unethical spammers using your mail. It is not something that happens only in VT and it's NOT because someone inside VT has hacked your site. 12. Is My Trashcan Periodically Deleted? No. Your mail is treated the same whether it is in your Inbox or Trashcan. After 30 days it is deleted. Less than 30 days from the time of reading and it remains. 13. My Friend Outside of VT Sent Me An Email. Why Didn't I Get It? VT gives you the option of blocking mail from sources outside of VT. This allows us to stop Spam from entering your account. If you have checked the box on your mail page to block outside mail, you won't receive any mail that doesn't come from an "@vtmail.com" or @virtualtourist.com" address. To accept outside mail, just uncheck the box. 14. Should I Unsubscribe from Spam? NO! Do not reply to Spammers at their unsubscribe link. This only serves to tell them that your address is a valid and that there's a real live person on the end of it. Simply Delete, Delete, Delete. 15. What's With These Nigerian/Liberian etc. Mails About Money? It's a very well-know scam that has been going around the Internet for years. Don't believe any emails that approach you for donations or all the rest. 16. Are Those Scam Mails Being Sent From Inside VT? No. They come from outside. Sometimes they fake just the 'From' to appear like they are coming from inside VT. If anyone does use a VT Member account to send any spam mail like this, their account will be summarily deleted. To report spam, use the "report as spam" link at the top of the mail message. |
