Adding Your Own Tips and Pages. 

Your travel tips and pages are the heart of the VirtualTourist community. Travel Tips are short entries you can share in13 categories from Hotels, to Must See Activities, to Local Customs. Travel Pages are more complete webpages. They consist of 3 main parts. An Intro, Tips, and Travelogues. Sharing them is fun, fast, and easy and your fellow travelers will love you for it!

To build a Tips, just visit any destination on VT and click the 'Add Your Own Tips and Reviews' link. You can build a whole TravelPage anytime you're adding tips, and you can also add whole pages from the link on the left navigation bar called 'Your Travel Pages.'

1. How Do I Share My Travels On VirtualTourist?
At VT we focus on sharing personal views, info and advice much more than on creating a dated log of your travels. As such we encourage members to share insights, tips, and images that not only help to create an overall feel for the place you're describing but that also give concrete advice and insider info that will help fellow travelers.

2. What Kinds of Pages Can I Build?
Basically, there are really 2 kinds of pages.
Your Personal Homepage. This consists of your homepage plus 5 personal albums of 8 chapters each. (We call a chapter an entry of a picture and text ). Use this page to share general info about you, your interests, your hobbies, or anything else that serves to give people an idea of who you are.
Travel Pages which consist of:
a. Intro- 3 text/photo chapters.
b. Tips- An unlimited amount of entries in 13 categories from Hotels to Restaurants, to Local Customs.
c. Travelogues- Free form entries about related topics. You can have up to 5 travelogues of 8 chapters for each location

3. How Do I Add Tips for a Destination Like for Example, Italy?
Simply go to the destination for which you want to add tips. Click the link 'Add Your Own Tips and Photos. ' We'll guide you through easy steps to create your own pages. You can also start at 'Your Travel Pages' and select new locations to start sharing about.

4. Is There a Limit to the Text/Photo Chapters I Can Add?
You can add as many tips as you like about things like Hotels, Local Customs and Must See Activities for any our 2.2 million locations. Furthermore, for each location, you can add a 3 text/photo chapter Intro and you can also add 5 travelogues of 8 chapters each.

5. Is There a Limit to the Travel Pages I Can Build?
You can have as many pages about as many locations as you like. There are 2.2 million locations - knock yourself out :-)

6. If I Add Tips Or A Travel Page, Can I Move Them to A New Location?
As for moving..you can move your entire page or parts of it as you wish simply and with the click of a button.
You can move
a. the entire page
b. individual tips
c. individual travelogues (but not individual chapters of a travelogue-- those can be cut and pasted.)

7. Can You Give Me Some Advice on Making Good Tips?
It's real simple. If you just follow the templates and guidelines, everything is explained. We'll walk you through all the steps and even help you automatically layout and design your pages. For the best results, fill out your tips and pages as fully as you can. The most important thing is to have fun building your pages and to feel free to express yourself and your opinions.

8. What Should I NOT Include in Travel Pages and Tips?
Here are some guidelines to help you determine what you should and should not include in your pages and tips.
-- VT is about sharing YOUR experiences. Do not use copyrighted material in your pages.
Copyright infringements will be deleted. Repeat infringers will have their membership revoked and all pages deleted. You are personally responsible for copyright violations.
-- Do not include commercial messages.
Member Pages are designed to provide Real Info from Real Travelers. Commercial messages will be deleted. If you wish to advertise on VT, please review our Advertising Section.
-- Please add only information that is relevant to the particular location.
For example, a page about dogs on your Dogtree, Alabama page, will be deleted.
-- HTML and Javascript code is Not supported.
Our special code, VTML, is the only code that is supported in VirtualTourist pages.

9. What Does a Travel Page Consist Of?
Travel Pages consist of:
a. Intro- 3 text/photo chapters.
b. Tips- An unlimited amount of entries in 13 categories from Hotels to Restaurants, to Local Customs.
c. Travelogues- Free form entries about related topics. You can have up to 5 travelogues of 8 chapters for each location

10. How Do I Add a Picture?
Uploading your picture at VT requires 3 simple steps: BROWSE, OPEN, UPLOAD THE PHOTO.
First, click 'BROWSE'. A little window will pop up showing the files on your computer. Browse your computer for the picture you want to upload. When you've found the picture you want to upload just click on it to highlight it, then click 'OPEN' to pick the picture you've decided on. All you have to do now is click 'UPLOAD THE PHOTO' on the VT template and the image you've selected will be uploaded to VT. (Trust us, It's a lot easier to do than explain.) Just remember to 'UPLOAD THE PHOTO' once you've selected a pic! Remember the mantra is 'Browse, Open, Upload the photo.'

11. Why Should I Add Themes to My Tips?
When you build a tip, you are asked to tag the tip with up to 3 tips that apply to the particular tip you built--like skiing, if it's about skiing, or wine tasting if it's about wine. Tagging your tips, makes them easier to find and allows people seeking your information to quickly and easily reach relevant items. It also means that your tips will get seen more frequently. You may choose up to 3 themes per tip.

12. How Do I Customize My Pages With Colors and Fonts?
FIrst off, you can customize your pages by using the Layout Engine. Just fill out your templates and then choose the layout and design you want. Your page will instantly change format. You can also use different colors, fonts and sizes by using VTML.

13. How Does Layout Work?
After you've built your pages the last step before publishing it is to choose the layout you want to use. All you have to do is click the layout buttons and your page will change on the fly. Choose the layout that you think looks best with the number of pics and the amount of text you have.

14. What is VTML?
VTML. stands for VirtualTourist MarkUp Language. It's is an easy-to-use code that allows members to quickly and effortlessly create custom pages without the need to learn HTML or Javascript. With it, members can add colors, fonts, different sizes, provide links, and more. Because VTML. is specifically designed to be simple and light, problems associated with HTML and Javascript will be eliminated ensuring a bug-free, fast, and usable design. You can learn about VTML.in the VTML. section of the Help feature. Also, you can see a simple VTML Primer linked from your page editing templates when you build a page.

15. How Do I Become a Top 5 Tip Maker?
Top 5 Tip Makers are determined by the ratings that VT Members give to tips. Tips with the best ratings are easier to find when you're doing research.

16. Can I Move My Page To A New Location? How?
You can move the entire contents of a travel page from location to another. You can also move individual parts (intro, tips, travelogues) to a new location. Just enter the edit version for the page you want to move. Once there, you'll find links for 'move everything to other page' and 'move to other page'. Just click that and then choose where you want to move to. It's very simple. Only thing is, if you don't already have a page your moving content TO, just set one up before you start.

17. Can I Move A Tip To Another Type Within the Same Page? Like Make a Must See Activity into an Off the Beaten Path?
You cannot make on type of tip into another type of tip. That's because the tip templates are different one from the other. The easiest thing to do is to simply open up another brower window and cut and paste the old tip into a new template.

18. I'm New To VT, My Tips and Pages Will Never Get Seen Will They?
Yes they will get seen. Every category of Tip in every Travel Guide can be ordered by 'Newest' as well as 'Best Rated. 'That means that tips you just created can be immediately seen by visitors and other members! If they're good, they'll get rated, and that means they'll show up even more!

19. How Many Chapters Can I Add to My Travel Page Intro?
You may add 3 chapters to your travel page intro.

20. How Many Chapters Can I Have in My Travelogues?
You may have 5 travelogues of 8 chapters each.

21. How Many Chapters Can I Have in My Member Homepage?
You may have 8 chapters in your Member Homepage.

22. How Many Personal Albums Can I Have On My Homepage?
You can have up to 5 Personal Albums of 8 chapters each.
