The First Trip India is a huge sub continent. The traveller who has only 3 weeks holiday will have to decide where to go , and will have to choose only a small area.this means giving up on a lot. We could not first decide whether to go north or south. Since we were travelling during the monsoon season we decided finally to go south, as we were worried about the mud in the north. The distances are very large so one can only do a couple of states in such a short time. It seemed crazy to go to India and not see the Taj Mahal ,but in the end ,as the temperatures in Rajastan are around 40C in August , and we could only fly to Bombay and not Delhi, we decided to go for Kerala and Karnataka. We are not sorry with the choice ,as you will see. Also one of the best things that happened to us was meeting up with our VT friend Aadil but more of that later. REad On.... |
Bombay Bombay is an incredible city full of contradictions. It is noisy, dirty ,charming, full of historic buildings, people of all kinds ,temples ,beaches ,restaurants and shops. But there are also many poor and homeless people ,beggars and people who see you only as an opportunity to make some rupees. Be aware of all this or you may feel overwhelmed.Don't miss a visit to the dhobi ghats, the town's laundry . It is fascinating. |
Hampi If you are interested in ancient cultures you must visit Hampi. This was the old capital of an ancient kingdom The nearest place to stay is the country town of Hospet , a typical rural Indian town in Karnataka ,with bullock carts walking down the streets, women in colourful saris carrying water pots on their heads etc. W e loved Hampi mainly because our visit was made in the low season when there were very few tourists around. We got a local guide who showed us around and explained the meanings of the statues, and temples which were lovely. NOt to be missed. |
