I think you should be spending over a week in Laos to make a trip out to Phonsovon worth it. You will spend a day getting in, a day there, and a day getting out. However, if you are in country for more than a week, it is totally worth it.

Well worth a visit but you will need time as it is a days journey to get their from the main highway plus coming back and a couple of days in Phonsovan.
The guesthouse where we stayed at arranged a little tour which we visited a little village which they made their huts from old relics such as bomb casings etc... many had interesting stories from the Vietnam war and much of the area is still today covered in land mines and un exploded bombs left from the War thats why the hills are so green but nobody can walk on them. Afterwards we went to look at the Plain of Jars and their are many of them. but still not much is know about them, still a mystery why they are their. I spent 5 weeks in Laos and it was amazing country to see but if you only got a couple of weeks stay on the main trail unless you interested in the War Phonsovan is worth a visited. Enjoy Laos.
