| Sicilia | Sicily at Easter Posted: Sat September 13, 2008 02:07 PM UTC
Is it crazy and crowded in Sicily over Easter week? is it going to be impossible to get accommodation? I want to visit either South of Spain or Sicily and have been warned off Spain as being overcrowded .Would appreciate any advice from experienced travellers who have visited during the festival.
thank you |

Don't know about Sicily but I was researching for a trip to Andalucia at that time. Had to drop the idea. Prices for hotels treble, even the least expensive. Food and tourist attractions ditto. Forget southern Spain for Easter week :(

Easter is a high season in most European tourist destinations, being school holidays. On top of that, Semana Santa processions etc. in Andalucia are a draw in themselves, it should be easier in Sicily (at least if you avoid places with parades and pageants, like Trapani) although I confess I wasn't there at Easter myself.
You could also try Greece if Orthodox Easter doesn't coincide with the Catholic one - although it can be a bit cold that early in the year, and it also seems to be a time when Greek schools take kids travelling, which is bad luck if they are billeted in your hotel.

Sicily is usually crowded but not crazy over the Easter week. You will find accomodation available and it will be a better one if you make your reservation a little in advance.
Enjoy your vacation wherever eventually you decide to go. Giuseppe
