| Berlin | 3 day Museum Pass worth it? Posted: Sun June 15, 2008 09:07 PM UTC
We will be in Berlin from Saturday to Wednesday. Seeing that most of the Museums will be closed on the Monday is it worth it to get the pass? I think the days have to be consecutive right?
We would like to visit the Pergamon, the Charlotteberg Palace, the Gemaldegallerie ,Jewish Museum and maybe also one or two other places. Also any thoughts on something good to do on the Monday? thanks |

Most. But not the most important ones. E.g. Pergamon Museum and the Jewish Museum (Mo till 10pm) are open on Mondays. http://www.smb.museum/smb/service/index.php?lang=e http://www.juedisches-museum-berlin.de/site/EN/00- Also open on Mondays is the German Historical Museum (another top museum). http://www.dhm.de/ > I think the days have to be consecutive right? Yes.

Wow, the previous poster's answer was pretty informative. I was going to suggest that you go see some of the many churches/cathedrals there are in town on Monday (Berliners Dom is very nice), maybe the Reichstag or Checkpoint Charlie too (don't know if they also close them on Monday though), or just tour a little around Brandenburger Tor and Unter Den Linden, but it looks like you will still be able to use your pass to see the places you want on Monday!! That's cool, have fun. The castle is nice and Pergamon is impressive. Visit the egyptian museum (close to the palace) if you can too.

the three day museum pass was perhaps the best purchase we made in Berlin.

| Berlin | Things to do in Berlin Posted: Mon June 16, 2008 01:30 AM UTC
Dont miss out on seeing Potsdamer Platz, or take a train to some of the beautiful suburban areas. Checkpoint Charlie and an understanding of the wall, between East and West Berlin. Take a river cruise, there is just so much to see in Berlin that it is a bit overwhelming. We took a half day orientation tour from the station near the Zoo and every corner we turned, there was something stunning and interesting to see.
We stayed in a bed and breakfast in Victoria Platz and the area was simply beautiful.. The bakeries were fantastic, and the cakes in Germany are to die for! And the German people were very helpful and friendly. We went for a wedding and travelled all around Germany, by train, and cruised up the Rhine. We are going back in November to experience some of the areas we havent seen, including the Clack Forest.

Is the entrance to the museum with the Pass free or just reduced?

Entrance is free with the 3-day pass (which is 19 euro/9,50 reduced). And yes, it is in fact great if you're a museums nerd, but don't do more than 2 (of the big) museums per day.
Must see of the included museums in my opinion (yes, you'll need a whole week and at least two tickets): - Altes Museum (monday open) - Alte Nationalgalerie - Berlinische Galerie (monday open) - Bode-Museum (monday open) - Brücke-Museum (monday open) - Deutsches Technik-Museum (monday open) - Gemäldegalerie - Museum Berggruen - Museum für Fotografie - Museum für Kommunikation - Museum für Naturkunde - Neue Nationalgalerie - Pergamonmuseum (Monday open) - Hamburger Bahnhof - Jüdisches Museum Charlottenburg Palace is not included as far as I know (just the - at least not for me that interesting - archaeology museum in the western wing). And: you have to pay extra for special exhibitions (often in Neue Nationalgalerie and Hamburger Bahnhof)

thanks a lot, everyone. But should we get the Museum Pass AND the welcome card for the transportation ? they don't cover the same places, right?
if we get both it's around 35 Euro right?

There are very few places covered by both. And "covered" by the Welcome Card means just a discount. No free entrance. Depends also a bit on your itinerary. If you make the 72 hours of a Welcome Card to 0,5+1+1+0,5 days it pays alone for the public transport in this time. > if we get both it's around 35 Euro right? called "Berlin WelcomeCard Culture+" http://www.visitberlin.de/english/berlin-infos/e_bi_tic_bwc.php rule of thumb: - the museums pass makes sense if you visit 3 museums and one of them is Pergamon Museum and another important one. - the WelcomeCard makes sense if you get a discount at 2 places/sights. The rest pays for by the free public transport. Also the convenience not to have to buy a new day ticket every day.

In addition to the aforementioned CityTour-Card Museumsinsel which provides free admission to all museums on the Island of Museum (another link:
http://www.citytourcard.com/english/berlin/.html?id= ), you could consider buying an Umweltticket (translates loosely into Pro-environment Ticket) This ticket is valid for 7 days and sells for EUR 26.20. The good thing is: The ticket is not only transferable, but on weekends and public holidays, you can take another adult and up to three children aged up to 14 with you. Same applies for working days from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
