Ho Chi Minh City Time in south vs north vietnam
Posted: Mon January 5, 2009 11:52 PM UTC
Hi there

Solid response to previous question - thanks.

Also wanted an idea of ideal time in South Vietnam (inc Saigon) vs North if only have 2 weeks to travel the country. North Vietnam appears to have the most attractions (Ba Be NP, Sapa, Halong Bay, Cat Be etc). Is it worth spending time in Mekong Delta or best to get up to North Vietnam asap?

Thanks again.

Hanoi ATM machines in Hanoi & SAPA
Posted: Sun January 4, 2009 06:39 PM UTC
Hi there,

Can anyone kindly let me know if ATM machines are easily available in HANOI and SAPA?
If not, I was wondering which money exchangers were recommendable?

Do most hotels have this facility?

Thanks

Vietnam Tours
Posted: Sun January 4, 2009 03:21 PM UTC
Hello,
I plan to go to Vietnam next year. As I am traveling alone, does anyone know of a good tour company that has reasonable prices. I am not looking for a private tour and I am more than willing to join a group excursion. I plan to spend 10 days and hope to travel from north to south or the other way around. Failing that, is there a tour company that will assist me in traveling alone by using buses or trains.

Thanks in advance.

Vietnam hanoi-hcmc-bangkok
Posted: Fri January 2, 2009 06:36 PM UTC
I'm flying to hanoi on the 23rd of April to meet some friends who are travelling there from Hong Kong. I'm spending the previous 2 months in India so won't have enough money to join them onwards to Cambodia, and I've managed to save about £500 by booking flights out of bangkok as opposed to hcmc. I'm flying out of Bangkok on the 25th of May - do you think that amount of time is going to be enough to travel from hanoi to hcmc, spending a decent amount of time in both cities and enjoying the travelling (by train or coach), and to then get a flight to bangkok? is it possible to book this flight in advance or should I wait until I arrive in Vietnam?

Ho Chi Minh City An An 2, Siagon Comfort, Kim Hotel or Happy Inn
Posted: Mon December 29, 2008 12:08 PM UTC
I’ve been looking at hotels in the Pham Ngu Lao area and trying to make a decision as to the best option for a 3 night stay in March. I’ve narrowed it down to An An 2, Siagon Comfort, Kim Hotel or Happy Inn. Last time I stayed in Lac Vien. I liked the location but their prices have gone up for a basic room (with no window).

My criteria are;
• US$ 30 for a double room (breakfast not necessary)
• A lift
• Room with a window
• Wi Fi included
• Located around Bui Vien St and De Tham

Has anyone stayed in any of these hotels recently?

I'll be in Hanoi on the 17th January, then will head south. I've travelled in China during the Spring festival without too much hassle (along the east coast).
How much will Tet mess with my plans in Vietnam?

I thought to spend a few days in Hanoi then head towards Hue and Danang, where would the best place to be for Tet.

Vietnam Travel guides
Posted: Wed December 24, 2008 01:18 AM UTC
What is most important on internet travelguides?

I think a guide should contain the following.

- Travel route tips
- Fast facts about the country or region.
- How to travel within the region or country.

Booking stuff is not importat because it could be found in booking sites. Travel company.

What do you think?

Ho Chi Minh City Advice on Mekong Delta during Tet?
Posted: Sun December 21, 2008 09:54 PM UTC
Hi Guys
We will be arriving in HCMC on 25th January just in time for Tet.
We will be leaving on 29th January so not too many days to do stuff and explore.
Tet eve sounds interesting, should we wonder the streets and join in with festivities on Tet Eve?
I am wondering how I would get to Mekong Delta region at this time of the year. I am not sure if we can even travel at this time of year, if we can how to get to Mekong Delta?
If it is possible to go to Mekong Delta at this time of year?
Is it best to go via a tour, (if so then where to book the tour) or should we consider going by bus on our own?
Is it worth staying in Mekong Delta for one night and return to HCMC the next day, I hear that staying in Can Tho would be good for one night, or would staying in another town be better at this time of year. Do the tours offer accommodation?

I know this is a long question but your help would be soooo appreciated!

Phan Thiet Mui Ne questions
Posted: Sat December 20, 2008 06:31 AM UTC
We are staying 2 nights at Little Mui Ne Cottages.
They do not have sports activities on the resort so I was wondering where we could go in the area to do:

windsurfing, surfing, kitesurf, body boarding, wakeboarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, jetskis, golf.

What else do you recommend doing/seeing in Mui Ne/Phan Thiet?

Is it better taking the train or car service from HCMC to Mui Ne? I hear there is a rail service from HCMC to Phan Thiet.

Thanks.
