Is there a quicker way to get from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng?

We only wanted to stay in VV for 2 nights, so i didnt want to spend 6 hours on a bus there and another 6 hours back to LP

Does anyone have any advice please?

I would be travelling to Pakse in late Jan 2009 and i'll be flying from Bangkok to Pakse. I would like to go to Hanoi from Pakse. Is there any other flights covering international route other than Laos Airlines as they dont fly to Hanoi. Or can i cross over to Ubon Ratchathani from Pase by land and then catch a flight from there instead?

Does anyone know whether or not there are flights from Luang Prabang to the Plain of Jars other than Lao Airlines? My wife and I would like to go in late February but flying is the only way that we would have time to do it. The Lao Airline flight Luang Prabang to Xieng Khouang is on Friday, returning on Sunday which is too long.

I know that Laos Airways and Thai Airways fly between the two cities, but I am just wondering "approximately" how much a round trip ticket costs? Any currency is fine as I can convert to my own.

i am doing a 15days trip to laos from bangkok and i am debating whether i should take the north border to chiang rai and carry on to Luang Prabang or from Bangkok to Vientiane then work my way up to Luang Prabang, any suggestion? I am more into nature than ruins.

I intend to take the night bus to Luang Prabang and Pakse to save time on travelling. Is it safe to travel by bus at night? Besides buses and flight what other transportation is there? Thanks for any information given

Dear VTers

I am planning to travel from Luang Prabang to Luang Namtha and have two options
1) To travel direct overnight on bus OR
2) Travel in the day to Udomxai, stay over 1 night, then continue next day

Considering that I'm a single female traveller, I am concerned which would be a better option. If I stop over in Udomxai, can I get a hotel room then? I can speak English and Chinese but hardly any Laos.

Appreciate any help you guys can extend.

I'll be visiting Vientiane for the first time from 11 to 13 November 2008. Have been trying to book a room at suitable budget Hotel in city centre via the NET, but, all responses indicated "Room NOT available" on those dates!

Is it possible to simply get off the plane and take taxi for a "walk-in" check-in at such accommodation in Vientiane?

Or, can any kind soul provide a better solution, pls.

Hi I'm going to travel from Thailand to Vietnam and Cambodia on my way to china. I have also thought that I should visit Laos but what causes my doubt is that I have read that there are guerillas and that the country is poorly developed for tourism which of course is a part of the charm. We are three nineteen years old girls with no experience in travelling before. Should we go or is it bad because of our lack of experience?

Some people told me that they found the P of J to be a bit of an anticlimax and it's hard to get there.. can anyone who has been there tell me how they felt about it.Is it worth the trip especially if we dont have a long time to spend in Laos?thanks

I would be grateful if anyone could tell me the best way to purchase flight tickets from Luang Prabang to Phonsavan, and Phonsavan to Vang Vieng. I have looked on the Lao Aviation website but it does not list the above. Is it better to buy them locally or is there somewhere in the UK or on the web where I can get them from. Thank Rob

I WILL BE IN LAOS ON THIS DATE FROM TEXAS. I WILL GO FROM CENTRAL LAOS TO NORTH ALL THE WAY TO SOUTH AND BACK TO CENTRAL FOR FLY OUT ANYONE WANT TO JOIN ARE WELCOME.

I am a New Zealand citizen.
I'm flying from Bangkok to Vientiane & aim to get a tourist on arrival.
From there i want to surface to Vietnam & then surface to Cambodia and get visas on each of the borders.

1/ Any problems obtaining these visas on arrival(I'll research which borders through the forums)?

2/ With so many travellers surfacing between these countries while obtaining visas on borders, surely they dont ask for proof of onward ticketing.
Yet some official visa websites say immigration require an onward flight ticket to obtain a visas for these countries.

I found 1 Laos site requesting:
*Holds return/onward ticket and all documents required for next destination,
*Holds Certificate of Bank Statement (min. USD 400.-) or life insurance policy
*Has a contact (individual person or organization) based in Laos
*Holds confirmed hotel reservation in Laos.

After reading so many forums and websites (some contrasting), please help esp. on 2.

I heard so much about Phonsavan's Plains of Jars and would really like to go there but i am running short of time. I was wondering if anyone would know if there's a NIGHT bus:-

1) from Vientiane to Phonsavan and what's the departure time and arrival time and how much is the fare.
2) from Phonsavan to LP and what's the departure time and arrival time and how much is the fare.

and errrr...is it safe to travel by night in Laos?

I want to travel from Vientiane to Hue in Vietnam. Does anyone have any information about the buses that make this trip. I believe I would need to go via Savannahket.Any information appreciated.

we're going to travel in Laos for 7 days (8 to 15 aug).
In our mind the itinerary should be:
aug 8th: Vientiane
aug 9th: Vientiane (neighbourhood of)
aug 10th: Vang Vieng
aug 11th: Phonsavan (plain of jars)
aug 12th: Luang Prapang
aug 13th: Luang Prapang (neighbourhood of)
aug 14th: Muang Khua --> Tai Xang (viet border)
aug 15th: Dien Bien Phu (Vietnam) --> Sapa (Vietnam) (then 13 days in Vietnam from north to south)

about you, could we keep to schedule?
I suspect that:
- 2 days won't be enough for the journey Vang Vieng - plain of jars - LP
- journey time from LP to Tai Xang nord vietnam border could have several delays depending on route conditions

have you some advise abt? .. any itinerary proposal for modification is well accepted to reduce transfer time ..

Is there any flight between Laos and Myanmar? I'm planing a visit to these two country, and need a quick and easy transport method.
Transiting at bangkok maybe more expensive and cost more time. Any information about the flight original city and destination, price, time, air company will be appreciated.

As for money, are credit cards widedly accepted? If not, are ATM machines available? Or is using U.S. dollars easier?

I am trying to find a convenient flight from Vte to Sing. Unfortunately, I haven't found much yet.

Seems the low cost between Udon and Sing are no longer in operation.

Anybody has a clue about that and how I would be able to reach Singapore from Vte the easiest/cheapest way possible ?

Hi. Only have chance to spend 5 or 6 days in Laos and wonder if anywone has the email address or mobile number of a guide or driver in Laos. Have been to Luang Prabang before and trekked in the hills but a bit more time constrained this time. Might fly into Luang Prabang and maybe out of Vientiane or maybe out of Luang Prabang. Alternatively might leave out of Pakse but not sure if have time to easily get from LP to Pakse. Any assistance appreciated. or name of a small tour company which will do individual tours for two. Anyone know if easy to rock up and hire a boat for a couple of days in either LUang Prabang or down around Pakse. I appreciate all your help.
