Sicilia Sicily in 9 days by car
Posted: Tue December 9, 2008 02:59 AM UTC
Too many questions regarding Sicily...
First one - is it safe to go around Sicily by car? Whoever drove around Sicily - I will appreciate your comments.
Second question - where to stay? I don't want to move every night. 3 locations is the max. So far I think: Palermo - Syracuse - Taormina (I'll do side trips from Palermo and Taormina)
Third - what to pack? I plan my trip for the end of February. Any suggestions? (don't mention camera, please:))
More questions are coming...

Sicilia Is November an OK time to be travelling in Sicilia and Cinque Terre?
Posted: Wed October 8, 2008 06:22 AM UTC
I am considering travelling around Sicily during November and was wondering if this would be a good time weather wise. To make the trip worth while I am also considering a few days in Cinque Terre - also November, what would the weather be like?
Would also appreciate any tips on accommodation as travelling solo and with the current financial climate any saving is a good saving...
thanks everyone, hope to hear from you soon...

Sicilia Not really a question. Just THANK YOU for your tips.
Posted: Thu October 2, 2008 02:53 PM UTC
Hi we are back from Sicily and we have had a great time. Only one thing we regret, we couldn´t see Mount Etna because there was always clouds around it.

I wanted to post this message to thank you all the vters who helped us with our questions before our trip. Some of the advices we got were really helpfull, and one of the best hotel we booked in the island was thanks to one of the posts.

So, thank you.

Sicilia How do I get to Mount Etna?
Posted: Thu September 25, 2008 07:38 PM UTC
Hello,

I've been looking for directions on how to get to Mount Etna from San Vito lo Capo by car using Mappy.com but it couldn't find Mount Etna for a location. I did some research online but not sure where do I need to go to access the volcano. Any ideas? How long would it take me to get there by car? How many hours do I need to explore the volcano? Is it really cold there? I will be leaving to Sicily on Friday and I am very excited with the trip!

Thanks so much in advance.

Sicilia What to do in Sicily for a week?
Posted: Wed September 24, 2008 12:52 AM UTC
Hello,

I will be in Sicily for a week and will be staying in San Vito Lo Capo which is at the North West of the Island. I was doing some research to find out what to do that week but all the touristy places I found are on the other side and the drive is too long. I already have my hotel week paid and can’t change it now. I rented a car but I don’t want to drive more than 2 hours each way max. Could you please give me some recommendations on what to do and visit? I really like sightseeing and visiting historical places.

Thanks so much in advance!

Messina local guides or reliable taxi service in the Messina area
Posted: Fri September 19, 2008 01:51 PM UTC
My wife and I will be on a cruise making a relatively brief stop in Messina on October 20, 2008 (arriving 7am, departing 2pm). We would like to find an English speaking guide to drive us to Pistunina and Zaffarina, the birthplace of my grandparents.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a guide or advice as to how I can find a guide service. The Internet search that I have done has not been useful.

Thanks.

Palermo training down from Roma
Posted: Sun September 7, 2008 09:36 PM UTC
Hi, Thanks for your helpful replies, I think taking the train sounds great, Wandering Camel Do you suggest breaking the train journey somewhere on the way? Although I have done a quickie bus trip through Italy my husband is yet to see, I am not sure of the train route. We will not be hiring a car , we both drive but on the left hand side of the road and if from what we have heard about Italy's roads, it will wreck our holiday experience...Thanks again I will be definitely be taking some of your good advise...

Hi Guys, My husband and I are traveling to Italy in Feb2009, we will be staying in Florence for a week or so then want to go to sicilia for about two weeks, I am unsure of the best way to reach sicily what to see other than the volcano, and should we stay in one place then venture out or travel around, We will not be driving and we are not back packing this holiday. Any advise greatly appreciated. Should we visit Calabria on the way down, We do not want an organised bus trip, we are able to do this on our own, with advise from V'rits. thanks

Palermo Airport-Palermo bus on Sunday
Posted: Mon August 25, 2008 09:28 AM UTC
Need to travel from Cefalu to catch the ryanair flight on Sunday 19th October. According to the prestiacomande website http://www.prestiaecomande.it/linea/orari_e_costi_aeroporto.htm
I can get a bus at 8:30 from palermo which just gets me there in time. It doesnt specifically say on the site whether the same service runs on Sundays or not. Does anyone happen to know if the timetable is in effect every day, or is it a reduced service on sundays?
Cheers

Sicilia The best view to Etna
Posted: Fri August 22, 2008 09:32 PM UTC
We'll stay in Cefalu 1 week in October and plan to rent a car to explore Sicilia - one day trips form Cefalu.
We plan to go to Siracusa - I saw that it's 230 km. My question is: is it possible on our way to Siracusa drive into some place to see Etna (not climb only see). From what site (city?) there is a good view to Etna? Perhaps parking place with view point?
Thanks in advance.

Palermo Palermo in early October
Posted: Wed August 20, 2008 10:30 AM UTC
Hello

My friend and I are travelling to Palermo on 29 September. I have heard over and over again about Palermo being 'dangerous'. As we are two women travelling together I would appreciate some feedback on dos and don'ts. Is it true that we should not be out at night on our own and how bad the the pick pocketing?

We would also like to know if there is a museum specifically about Palermo/Sicily.

Thirdly we are both very interested in volcanoes and are rather hoping we may be able to do a day trip to see a volcano. Is this possible.

I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks

Is there a way to get from Agrigento to Scala dei Turchi apart from driving there? I don't want to rent a car and was wondering if there's some kind of public transport that could drop you off quite close to Scala? Many thanks.

Catania Degustazione di Vino a Catania e Posti da Visitare
Posted: Sun August 17, 2008 05:37 PM UTC
Dear all,

we will be visiting Catania in September and our accomodation is in Adrano. I was trying to check whether there is any place for wine tasting in Catania. Don't know whether someone can help us?

We are also looking to visit typical Sicilian Villages -do you suggest any village in particular we should visit? Places next to the sea would also interest us. We will surely be visiting Taormina.

Thanks in advance
Stefan

Ciao a tutti,

Grazie Tanto
